Attic cleaning & reconditioning · Marysville, WA

Marysville attics, cleared of rats and refilled

Rats and mice from nearby fields often settle into the blown-in insulation of Marysville's newer homes. We remove the contaminated fill, seal the attic and blow in a fresh, even layer.

Marysville homes

Attic cleaning & reconditioning built around Marysville houses

A newer attic in Sunnyside, Whiskey Ridge or Cedarcrest looks simple from the hatch: trusses, a flat blanket of blown-in fiberglass, a few ducts and bath fan lines. That simple layout makes it easy for rodents. When nearby fields are cut or cleared, rats and mice push into neighboring houses and find the attic through roof returns, gable vents or gaps where the garage roof meets the house. Once inside, they tunnel through the loose fill and spread droppings across the whole attic floor. Builder-grade insulation that has settled thin around the edges adds energy loss on top of the mess.

In a truss attic there's limited room to move, so we work from the truss chords and use long vacuum hoses to remove contaminated insulation across the full attic. We clean droppings from the top plates and ceiling drywall, sanitize the area, and check flexible ducts and bath fan lines for chewing or disconnection. Entry points get sealed with metal before anything new goes in. Then we install baffles where soffit vents were buried, seal air leaks around fixtures and the attic hatch, and blow in fresh insulation to an even, consistent depth. Photos document each stage so you can see the attic before, during and after.

What Marysville throws at attics and crawl spaces

The houses

Marysville has grown fast, and much of its housing is recent. Downtown and the older blocks near Ebey Slough hold modest homes from the early and middle 1900s, many on low crawl spaces. Post-war ramblers and 1970s split-levels spread out from there. The big wave came from the 1990s on, when Sunnyside, Whiskey Ridge, Getchell and Cedarcrest filled with two-story tract homes on crawl spaces, with blown-in attic insulation and flexible ducts in the attic or crawl space. Manufactured homes and older farmhouses remain on the edges of town.

The weather

Marysville sits at the north edge of the Snohomish River delta, with Ebey Slough, Quilceda Creek and Allen Creek running through low ground. The flats get fog and stay damp through winter, while homes on the hills to the east catch more wind. The area also sees convergence zone storms that drop heavy rain or snow in short bursts. Soil on the lowlands holds water well into spring.

The wildlife

Farm fields, sloughs and fresh construction edges surround many Marysville neighborhoods. Norway rats live along ditches, sloughs and farm buildings, and they move into new subdivisions as fields are cleared. Mice come indoors when crops are harvested and nights cool. Roof rats, squirrels and raccoons work the wooded ravines and hillsides.

FAQ

Attic cleaning & reconditioning in Marysville: FAQ

Still unsure? Call (800) 674-4933 and talk it through with us.

Why is my newer home's attic insulation already thin?

Blown-in insulation settles over time, and in some builder installs it was thin at the edges or uneven from the start. Rodent tunneling and foot traffic from other trades push it around further. Reconditioning restores a uniform depth across the whole attic, including the low edges where it matters most.

Is it safe to stay home during attic rodent cleanup?

Yes, in most cases. The work area is the attic, and the material leaves through hoses to the outside. We protect the hatch area and the path to it. Because rodent droppings can carry hantavirus, the crew wears protective gear and wets droppings down rather than sweeping them.
