Blowing loose-fill insulation into an attic · Seattle, WAInsulation
Insulation does one job: it slows heat moving out of your house in winter and into it in summer. It stops doing that job when it settles, gets wet, is packed down by foot traffic or is soiled by rodents. Plenty of older Seattle homes and Eastside houses from the 1970s through the 1990s still have their original attic insulation, well short of the R-49 to R-60 range Washington now targets for new construction.
We install the materials that suit each space: Knauf EcoBatt and CertainTeed batts, blown-in fiberglass, cellulose, rockwool and fiberglass rolls. When the old layer has to go, we remove it first. We also handle soundproofing insulation and help PSE customers with insulation rebates, checking what you qualify for and handling the paperwork with you. Every job starts with a free inspection and photos of what's in your attic right now.

If the old insulation is dry, clean and just thin, adding on top is often fine. If it is soiled by rodents, wet, moldy or badly compressed, it should come out first. Removal also exposes the attic floor for air sealing. We show you photos and tell you which applies to your attic.
It depends on the attic. Blown-in fiberglass or cellulose fills around framing and wiring well in open attics. Batts suit open joist bays and knee walls. Rockwool resists moisture and fire. We recommend a material based on your attic's layout, access and condition after we inspect it.
PSE customers may qualify for insulation rebates. Eligibility and amounts are set by PSE and change over time, so we don't quote figures. We check what you qualify for and handle the paperwork with you as part of the job.
